This is the text for the English portion of the page.

As you can see, we will be working on these pages in both languages. We will record our experiences, findings, thoughts and impressions.

We are firmly committed to raising our children with both languages. We feel that it provides a lifelong opportunity for them.

Consistency

We have found that one of the keys to teaching kids a second language is consistency. Madeline, speaks only Spanish to our children. She also forces the children to speak to her only in Spanish. She does this all the time. The idea is to make it "strange" for them to communicate to her using English.

If you choose to do this, you will get some strange looks and questions in public. Don't be put off by it. Madeline even speaks to our children in Spanish when they are playing with other kids. She, of course, speaks to the other kids in English.

It is even better when both parents speak the second language to the kids, but I am still learning Spanish myself and don't have the proficiency to do that. I ask my daughter--Delenn, age 3 as I write this--to help me with my Spanish. She takes delight in doing so (most of the time, but that's another topic).

Your children will have great pressure to speak English. They may even be taunted by their peers as they go to school. You need to be consistent and keep up the second language even if this happens. Don't let your children get discouraged as this happens or they will loose the fluency which they so easily gained when they were young.

Esta es la parte para el texto en Español.

Como ven, trabajaremos en estas paginas en los dos idiomas. Registraremos nuestras experiencias, descubrimientos, pensamientos, y impresiones.

Estamos firmemente cometidos a criar a nuestros hijos en los dos idiomas. Pensamos qué suministra oportunidades para su vida perpetua.

Consistencia

Hemos encontrado qué un punto importante en enseñar a los niños una segunda lengua es la consistencia. Madeline, solamente habla en Español a nuestros niños. Ella también fuerza a los niños a hablar en Español. Hace esto todo el tiempo. La idea es el hacerles "raro" el hablarle en Ingles.

Si eliges a hacer esto, recibirán miradas raras y preguntas del publico. Esto qué no te haga parar. Madeline también les habla en el Español cuando están con otros niños. Claro qué, a los otros niños les habla en Ingles.

Aun es mejor cuando los dos padres hablan en una segunda idioma a los niños, pero aun estoy aprendiendo Español y no tengo la proficiencia. Le pregunte a mi niña - Delenn, qué tiene 3 años mientras escribo esto - qué me ayude con mi Español. Deleite en ayudarme (la mayoría del tiempo - pero eso es otro tópico).

Sus niños tendrán mucha presión el hablar en Ingles. Hasta qué sus compañeros se vilipendian de ellos cuando van a la escuela. Necesitan ser consistentes y seguir con la segunda lengua aun qué esto pueda ocurrir. No dejen qué sus niños se desanimen si esto ocurre ó perderán la fluidez qué ganaron tan fácil cuando eran jóvenes.
