| Introduction |

I
felt that I needed to put some of the interesting links that I
have found in my travels throughout the Internet. I spend a great
deal of time on-line and am constantly finding
interesting places.
Most
are placed
on the
appropriate
page, but
some just don't fit anywhere. Still, they are interesting. Here
is a place just to display them and provide some information.
I'm
an not sure just how this page will evolve. Perhaps I will provide
some organization, perhaps not. |

Sites
of General Interest
These are sites that I have found interesting, but I just can't classify.
- National Public Radio
- I listent to NPR regularly. I use their
web site to view photos and get additional informaiton on the stories
of interest to me.
- The Human Footprint
- Human influence is driving conservation
crises on a global scale. There is little debate in scientific
circles about the importance of human influence on ecosystems. This
is scary stuff! Check it out.
- Annenberg Political Fact Check
- A nonpartisan, nonprofit, "consumer
advocate" for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception
and confusion in U.S. politics. They monitor the factual accuracy
of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of
TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews, and news releases.
NPR
I listen to NPR a lot. This is a set of sites from programs of particular interest to me.
- DNA Files
- The DNA Files is an award-winning series of radio programs hosted by John Hockenberry and guided by an outstanding panel of advisors. The programs explore not only the science of genetics, but its ethical, social and legal implications.
Research
I do a bunch of this in various aspects of my work and private life. Here are some good sites I have found.
- SHPS Library Links Reference Works
- Links to a number of sites for general
research. The SHPS
Library Links site has a number of pages good
site links for school aged and adult research.
- Bartleby.com
- Great blooks online. Many of the quotes
on this site are from this reference site. An excellent place to
research literature and to purchase great books in support of their
online efforts.
Software
These are sites that I visit regularly
to check for software. I look primarily for freeware, but, some
also contain shareware and commercial software listings.
- SnapFiles
- A site which contains both freeware
and shareware files in several categories.
- HotScripts
- PHP, CGI, Perl, JavaScript and ASP script collection and resource web portal.
- FreewareWeb.com
- Advertise themselves as a one stop
freeware source. I'd be careful of the links (lots of ads and popups,
nothing is really free!). I use it for the Software listings.
- CGI Resource Index
- Scripts in Perl, C, C++, etc.
- NoNags
- This site contains freeware. The
name comes from the fact that the software is checked to assure
that it is truely freeware and not some sort of "nagware".
I have moved it to the bottom of the list because it doesn't seem to update AT ALL recently. It still might be helpful for finding older freeware.
Development Sites
These sites are related to software/systems development. I do a lot of that, so I visit sites like these all the time.
- FreshMeat
- freshmeat maintains the Web's largest index of Unix and cross-platform software,
themes and related "eye-candy",
and Palm OS software. Thousands of applications, which are preferably
released under an open source license, are meticulously cataloged
in the freshmeat database, and links to new applications are added
daily. Each entry provides a description of the software, links
to download it and to obtain more information, and a history of
the project's releases, so readers can keep up-to-date on the latest
developments.
- Wotsit's Format
- Ever wondered what that file is, or how to read a file? This site contains formats for thousands of files.
- Sourceforge
- One of the largest development sites on the web.
"Breedlove" on the Web
So I went to Google, entered "breedlove" and here are some sites I found . . .
- Breedlove Guitar Company
- This was the first entry. Seem to have some really nice guitars.
- Breedlove and Associated, LLP
- This was the second entry. Quite a contrast
- Breedlove Dehydrated Foods
- And this was number three. Boy, we Breedloves are into all sorts of things.
20-Mar-2007: Page 14, entry 135 this time. Of course, there are even imaginary Breedloves who made it a full four pages ahead of me. See the Blog.
17-Jul-2006: Every so often I check again just to see if the site has become more popular. The first reference to the site is on page 36 (354 out of 133,000 references). Hey, that's not so bad. The site is still in the top 1%. The first reference was to the GimoWiki page. It's a reference to my personal Wiki page which was being pounded by the SPAMers so I guess my ego doesn't need to get too big for that one. Oh well . . . I'll try again another day . . . |
