Individual Right to Bear Arms

individual right to bear arms. This decision struck down a Washington D.C. ban on indivuals owning hand guns. I expect we will see gun advocates attacking other laws restricting gun ownership in the near future as a result of this.

The amendment reads:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

"I consider this the opening salvo in a step-by-step process of providing relief for law-abiding Americans everywhere that have been deprived of this freedom," said Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association. According to the the story in the Sacramento Bee, the NRA will file lawsuits in San Francisco, Chicago and several of its suburbs challenging handgun restrictions there based on Thursday's outcome. Yep, here it comes. More pressure to own guns of all types. Next it will be, I should be allowed to own a machine gun for self defense. Right . . . more wack jobs with weapons means a safer environment . . . sure.
