You are worth $7,000,000 . . .

. . . at least to the EPA. That's the value of an average human life for evaluation purposes. How does it work? Well, suppose the EPA is considering a rule which they figure will save 10,000 lives. They multiply that by the value of a life and get a number (e.g. $70,000,000,000). If the cost to implement the rule is less than that amount, it's a deal. If it costs more than that they may not consider it (not really encouraging if you are one of those 10,000 lives!).
