Work - Life (UN)Balance

With the economy the way it is, having a job is a good thing. Balancing that job with your home life can be a bit problematic, however. I am for the moment, gainfully employed and it looks like our business will be going great guns despite the economy. But, my family and I are feeling great pressure to make sure that I keep this job. As I have said before, I'm an old guy in a young guy's field. Getting a job in IT at my age would be practically impossible during good ecnomic times. But, given the tremendous number of layoffs, downsizings, furloughs . . . getting a job now would be impossible.

We are making some major program changes at work and the hours and effort involved in achieving the goals is tremendous. But the pressure to remain a productive member of the team is even more tremendous. It is important in this economy to make youself as invaluable and anyone can be to an employer. Contribute, contribute, contribute . . . the word of the hour.
