Tue, 22 Sep 2009Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of HappinessOne of the most famous phrases from the U.S. Declaration of Independence. They are part of the inalienable rights of man stated in the document. Now, I hear about the proposed health care plans requiring that people purchase health care insurance. Seems to fly in the face of this phrase, doesn't it? OK, so people are required to by automobile insurance if they drive. Yes, but they aren't required to drive as they are to live. Unless, of course, you are pursuing happiness in your car, I guess. It seems to me that, if the politicians are going to require the American people (gawd, I hate that phrase) to buy insurance, they had darn well better control the costs! This means controlling the profits of the companies providing the insurance. posted 07:41 [/Politics] permanent link |
